By Brian Weis
Whether you have played a course 20+ times a year or looking to play the course for the first time, insights from an insider can help enhance your golf experience. Below is an interview with Tom Stem who shares some valuable tidbits about the course, memorable holes and must eats and treats at the 19th.
Give Our Readers An Overview of the Golf Course/Property
Designed by legendary architects William Flynn and Donald Ross, our 18-hole golf course, surrounded by stunning mountain views, offers a unique experience unlike any other. You'll encounter interesting par-3 holes, as well as a cool layout with an old-school feel, that will keep things fun and challenging all the way! In the last 110 years, countless golfers of all abilities have played our one-of-a-kind course, from beginning players to PGA Tour champions.
If Someone Was Looking To Golf In The Area, Why Should They Play Your Course?
At Pocono Manor, we offer top-notch course conditions and green speeds in the area on a daily basis. We are also known for our friendly customer service in a laid back peaceful environment. All of that, paired with our unique early 20th-century course design and unparalleled history makes Pocono Manor a must-play golf destination in the region.
What Tips or Local Knowledge Would You Provide To Help Them Score Better At Your Course?
Please ask for a copy of the "Greg Wall's Golf Tips" sheet at our pro shop if it is your first time playing the course. Our PGA professional put together this detailed hole-by hole guide to attacking our course for new players to our facility.
Any recent changes to the golf course? Or any upcoming changes?
This past offseason, the course underwent tree removal on dead and dangerous trees, as well as strategic tree removal around the course. Additionally, we continued with green expansions for #s 4, 8,10,11, and 18. As always, Pocono Manor is dedicated to maintaining the integrity of its golf course design by preserving its history. Last year's conditions were excellent, and our goal for 2022 is to make them even better!
Many exciting upgrades have been made in the last year. An important change to our facility was the renovation of our golf shop and uncovering a structure from many years ago. This construction led to the discovery and return of the original logo.
Recent Awards or What You Are Most Proud About The Course?
We talk a lot about how proud we are of our history at Pocono Manor Golf Course. From the course designers to our past touring pro, Art Wall Jr., and all of the golf legends who have played here. More recently, we have focussed on course conditions and greens speeds, which are among the area's fastest on a daily basis.
What Is The Signature, Most Talked About, or Most Photographed Hole?
Pocono Manor's world-famous par 3 #7 is only 77-yards long and straight downhill. Fun fact, in 1968 Arnold Palmer double-bogeyed this signature hole on his way to a 69!
What Is Your Favorite Hole? Any Tips to Play It?
My favorite hole is #11 a 385-yard par four with a beautiful view from an elevated tee shot. The fairway is wide at the beginning but narrows with a naturalized area on the right and trees on the left for longer hitters. The second shot plays downhill to a tricky green that slopes from left to right. Don't leave your approach shot above the hole!!
Must Have Dish or Drink after the round at the 19th Hole?
We keep it simple with cocktails, beer, and soft drinks available along with sandwiches and hot dogs and snack options available in our bar area as well as on the course on our beverage cart. We cater dinner options for larger groups with fully custom packages.
For the traveling golfer, do you have lodging onsite or partner with any area hotels?
While we do not have on-site lodging, we are partnered with The Carriage House and offer a special rate when you stay as a guest. We are also partnered with a variety of Airbnb rentals in the area.

About: Brian Weis
Brian Weis is the mastermind behind GolfTrips.com, a vast network of golf travel and directory sites covering everything from the rolling fairways of Wisconsin to the sunbaked desert layouts of Arizona. If there’s a golf destination worth visiting, chances are, Brian has written about it, played it, or at the very least, found a way to justify a "business trip" there.
As a card-carrying member of the Golf Writers Association of America (GWAA), International Network of Golf (ING), Golf Travel Writers of America (GTWA), International Golf Travel Writers Association (IGTWA), and The Society of Hickory Golfers (SoHG), Brian has the credentials to prove that talking about golf is his full-time job. In 2016, his peers even handed him The Shaheen Cup, a prestigious award in golf travel writing—essentially the Masters green jacket for guys who don’t hit the range but still know where the best 19th holes are.
Brian’s love for golf goes way back. As a kid, he competed in junior and high school golf, only to realize that his dreams of a college golf scholarship had about the same odds as a 30-handicap making a hole-in-one. Instead, he took the more practical route—working on the West Bend Country Club grounds crew to fund his University of Wisconsin education. Little did he know that mowing greens and fixing divots would one day lead to a career writing about the best courses on the planet.
In 2004, Brian turned his golf passion into a business, launching GolfWisconsin.com. Three years later, he expanded his vision, and GolfTrips.com was born—a one-stop shop for golf travel junkies looking for their next tee time. Today, his empire spans all 50 states, and 20+ international destinations.
On the course, Brian is a weekend warrior who oscillates between a 5 and 9 handicap, depending on how much he's been traveling (or how generous he’s feeling with his scorecard). His signature move" A high, soft fade that his playing partners affectionately (or not-so-affectionately) call "The Weis Slice." But when he catches one clean, his 300+ yard drives remind everyone that while he may write about golf for a living, he can still send a ball into the next zip code with the best of them.
Whether he’s hunting down the best public courses, digging up hidden gems, or simply outdriving his buddies, Brian Weis is living proof that golf is more than a game—it’s a way of life.
